Joni Sylvester | Language Arts, Middle School

7th Grade Language Arts Teacher Joni Sylvester graduated from Evangel University with a degree in Education. She also has a “highly qualified” endorsement from the state of Kansas in the field of language arts. Recently, she was excited to edit a book that was published in the spring of 2015. She taught 4th/5th grade for a year in Boston, MA., and then for 22 years at a local Christian school as the 6th-8th language arts teacher.

At the end of the 2011 school year, she began to feel God prompting her to pursue other teaching opportunities, and she came to CCA. Joni and her husband Brad have 3 children. All 3 have attended Christian schools since preschool. Brittany is a senior at Evangel University and Lauren is a junior at Sterling College. Justin is in 8th grade at CCA.

Personal philosophy of education: “As a product of Christian education myself, at an early age I began to see the value in applying God’s principles to all we do in life. I feel that as teachers, we should never miss an opportunity to plant seeds that will affect a child for eternity.” Prov. 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’S purpose that prevails.” I want to help student’s understand that God has a specific purpose for them and encourage them to pursue that purpose rather than their own plans.

Personal Philosophy of Education: “My goal is to help students develop excellence and clarity in writing, reading, speaking, and listening. As students grow in their knowledge of God, I want to encourage them to share His truth with others. I want to help produce learners who are committed to God with whole hearts, renewed minds, and righteous behavior.”
