Central Christian Academy has a centrally-located computer lab of 25 computers as well as two wireless mobile labs of 18 and 20 notebook computers which are all networked. Computer activities are closely tied to the classroom curriculum. Currently we are installing interactive whiteboard projectors in classrooms with the goal of every teacher using it to complement their lessons. In addition, we are integrating the use of an iPod Touch Cart this year.
Students in K-6 receive instruction in the basics of the Windows operating system, computer care and use, hardware, network essentials, keyboarding (beginning in second grade), software applications such as word processing, presentation, and publication, as well as other educational software. Our primary focus is to prepare students to use technology as a tool for learning, creating, communicating, and problem-solving.
On a weekly basis students come to the computer lab during a regularly scheduled time. Kindergarten and First grade have computer lab in small groups for 20 minutes a week. Second through sixth grades utilize the lab for 40 minutes a week, focusing on basic computer skills and learning software applications. The focus is on improving their keyboarding skills, as well as becoming proficient with software applications such as word processing, presentation, and web browsing.
In Middle School, all students have a Computer Applications course offered as a focus class in a seven-week block. Technology is integrated in the regular education classroom through notebook computers. At this level, the focus of instruction is centered almost exclusively on computer application skills (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, Internet searches, etc.) and the safe and ethical use of technology.
Middle School students have created a blog site for Web Page II class located here.
