Tammy White | First Grade

My name is Tammy White and my passion is learning about God, serving Him and teaching first graders about our Lord.   I was raised by wonderful Christian parents who taught me who our God was and what His son Jesus Christ did for each of us.  Growing up my father’s job took him all over the United States.  At the age of eleven I started babysitting which led me to my love for children.  When I was in junior high school, God placed upon my heart to be an elementary school teacher.  It was the desire of God’s heart for me to teach in a Christian school.  I attended University High School in Irvine, California and my junior year I had the opportunity to take a physical education methods class for a semester and the second semester we went to the neighboring elementary school to teach students physical education.  This confirmed to me what God’s will was for my life.  The year I graduated my family returned to Wichita, Kansas.

I enrolled in Wichita State University to begin my dream and goal of becoming a teacher.  I also attended Manhattan Christian College, Friends University and then returned to Wichita State University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.

God opened some amazing doors and lead me to Central Christian Academy where I began to substitute for the school while my son Tyler was a baby.   After my first day substituting at CCA I was filled with a strong peace and knew God not only brought me to serve Him at CCA, but He had shown me where my son would receive a quality Christian education.

I have taught at Central Christian Academy for 20 years.  I began as a kindergarten teacher.  I taught kindergarten for 2 years and I have taught first grade for the last 18 years.   God has given me a love for children and a gift of relating to them.  I’ve always known I wanted to use this gift to teach children.  I love integrating my faith with teaching.  It would be very difficult for me to separate my faith from my work.  Working at CCA allows me to be real about my love for God and my love for His children.  First grade is a foundational year for guiding young students to grow in faith as well as academics. I love partnering with Christian families to help guide their students to mature into the people God has called them to be.  Teaching in a Christian school allows me the ability to continually share my own faith and love for the Lord, model Christian values, and inspire my students’ own faith journeys.  As a Christian educator, I believe that Jesus Christ is the foundation of all knowledge and learning.  I believe that God’s Word is truth and that the light of His Word should shine upon every subject that I teach.  I desire to be a Christian role model to my students and bring glory to God.  The focus of my teaching is to nurture my students to love and serve the Lord.  I want them to use their acquired knowledge and God given gifts to further the work of God’s Kingdom. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12

When I moved to Wichita I started attending West Side Christian church.  This has been my home church for 39 years.  I taught children’s church for 3 years, have helped with VBS, and I currently serve on the Welcoming Committee.  I also met my wonderful and supportive husband Steve at West Side and we have been married for 30 years.  I have two stepsons, Thane and Loren.  Then Steve and I have one son, Tyler.  We are very proud of our sons.   Thane and his wife are missionaries in Tanzania, Africa.  Loren has his own remodeling business.  Tyler is a Field Appraiser for Sumner County.  It has brought Steve and I much pleasure and joy to see our sons grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

In my spare time I love looking for opportunities to serve the Lord, read His word, spend time with my family, play cards and travel.
