What Makes a Great Christian School?

Every group wants to be great, whether it is a sports team, a school, or a business. No one would play for a coach whose goal was to lose every game! Likewise, we would never buy stock in a company with aspirations to lose money each year. Every team, business, and school want to be great, but very few achieve it. Here are three reasons why I believe that CCA is a great Christian school.

Consistency

In his book Atomic Habits, James Clear wrote, “successful people do consistently what others do occasionally.” Many of the teachers that we have at CCA are great because they consistently do the little things that make teachers great. They greet kids as they come in the door. They pray regularly for their students. They work hard each summer to improve their teaching. They study God’s word daily so that they can integrate the Bible into every lesson they teach.

When a resignation happens, we do not settle for mediocre faculty. Instead, we wait for God to provide outstanding Christian educators with a track record of consistent excellence in the small things that make teachers great. This is one reason CCA has consistently offered excellent Christ-centered education in Wichita for 40 years.

Commitment

CCA has fully committed to following its mission to partner with the Christian home and local church. Did you know that over half of all Christian schools are considered “open enrollment” schools – meaning that the parents do not have to have a testimony of faith in Christ to enroll their students? Many other Christian schools require at least one parent to have a testimony of faith in Jesus. CCA is one of the very few Christian schools in the United States that requires both parents (except for single-parent homes) to have a vibrant Christian testimony. This commitment to serving Christian homes – homes fully dedicated to living for Jesus Christ – sets CCA apart.

Over the past two years, CCA has turned away dozens of potential students due to the parents lacking a commitment to Christ or a commitment to their local church. Although it costs us numbers in enrollment, we believe that guarding our school’s mission makes CCA stronger.

Community

When you need to move a refrigerator, who do you call? I can guarantee that you only consider family or close friends. Why? Because they are the people who will do anything for you because they love you and are in a relationship with you for the long haul. CCA is full of “refrigerator friend” people. We care for each other; we support each other, protect each other, and provide for each other. We love one another.

Last week, I received a commitment from a family who fully paid all tuition and fees for a CCA family going through a medical hardship. This is the type of giving that brings tears of joy to your eyes because you see God’s family living out the gospel.

Consistency, Commitment, Community. If you are a part of the CCA family – thank you for making CCA great. If you are considering CCA for your children, I can confidently tell you that you are choosing a great school and great families to share life with.

May God allow us to be faithful to Him and one another as a family of believers!
