Living by Truth

In the old children’s fable, The Emperor’s New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen, the emperor loves new clothing more than anything else. Two dishonest men convince the emperor to pay them to weave a fabulous outfit for him. They tell everyone that the clothes they make are fully visible to the wise and learned, but are completely invisible to those who are foolish or unfit for their positions. They work for hours at looms (with nothing on them) and are complimented on their work by many dignitaries who see nothing, but do not want to be considered foolish. The ruse continues until the emperor parades through the city in his “beautiful” new clothes to the crowd’s approval until, finally, a child says, “But he has nothing on at all.”

 

Sometimes the obvious truth will not be spoken.

 

Have you heard of “furries”? Furries are young people who have “identified” as an animal such as foxes, wolves, dogs, etc., and act as such regularly. I have seen pictures from a school, just miles from CCA, of students who identify as “furries” wearing collars and being led about on leashes by other students.

 

If you believe that a school allowing for and providing time for behavior like this seems ridiculous and sad – I am thankful. My heart breaks for kids seeking their identity anywhere other than in Christ. It also frustrates me that the adults caring for these children do not have the courage to guide students to decisions that lead to a life that lines up with reality.

 

Our goal at CCA is to teach students the truth of God’s word, and a big part of this education is teaching them that their identity is secure because they are a child of God, made in His image. As a son or daughter of the King, they are deeply loved, fully pleasing, totally acceptable, and complete in Christ.

 

I love what Paul wrote in Philippians 4:8 when he said, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
